Let's face it, software is big. Really big. The software I have running on this computer could probably fill an entire library (mostly because of AppImage >_> ). But. Software without documentation is often useless. And good documentation is big. Really big. Sometimes even bigger than the software it documents! Such is the case here:

Um, that's a ZIP archive, just represented in raw hexadecimal. :) To turn it back into binary, copy the data into a file novert.hex and then do

xxd -r -p > novert.zip < novert.hex

and then you can unzip it and see both the documentation and the software itself. As I said, the documentation is significantly bigger than the software! Amazing, isn't it!? \o/

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

As you may know, the Cosmic desktop is based on the Smithray rust library. Niri is also based on Smithray, but it has a different take on the desktop experience.

Niri is a scrollable-tiling Wayland compositor. Windows are arranged in columns on an infinite strip going to the right. Opening a new window never causes existing windows to resize.

I'd like to announce the release of Niri version 0.1.10. This release features huge improvements to window arrangement and mouse dragging.

Dragging windows into tiling position is now super simple and intuitive. Hold the MOD key and drag away - usually the Windows key. Tablet users will find a similar experience. Just hold and drag. There are videos demonstrating these features.

Other improvements include trackball support, better pointer positioning after dragging, laptop lid opening and closing commands, and much better multi-monitor support.

If you're a fan of alternative desktops, why not give it a try. Most ...
