I had some big revelations the last few weeks about the younger generations and their complete lack of appreciation and understanding of technological advancements.
I got my first console in 1981, my first computer in 1983, and worked in IT for 25 years before switching careers to teaching at an international school three years ago. I teach students from grade 6 to 10, and the diploma programme for grade 11 and 12.
A lot of the students use ChatGPT privately, mainly to cheat on their assignments. I have been teaching them about vibe coding on Claude.ai, open source AIs run locally, AI music generation (udio), image generation, and now video generation with Google Gemini Veo-2. They are not impressed by anything I show them. They take everything for granted. If I generate a video that is amazing they only point out potential flaws. Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.
It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.
