Living the AI Amplified Life - Numer 23 - Entering New Domains
I’m absolutely loving living the AI-amplified life.
I had a wonderful interview with Acme Marketing (not their real name). They are looking for someone to help grow their Snowflake practice, with an emphasis on pre-sales, marketing, accelerators, and helping with the Snowflake partnership. I’m perfect for that role.
Minor blip: their industry is not one I’ve done a lot in, as they are a Customer Experience agency.
After the call, I pondered how to address the fact that I could be very effective even if, on day one, I’m not an expert in their domain.
I woke up at 5 a.m. with an idea. I opened my phone to the ChatGPT Dot agent (their answer to Grokbots) and asked it to do the following:
I have a job for you. I’ve interviewed with Acme Marketing, and it went well. I don’t have domain knowledge in their main marketing business. I want to build a dashboard using DataForge and the dashboard builder I’m creating.
Your job is to go to the AcmeMarketing.com website, learn their domain, and do industry research on the metrics business leaders in that domain care about. Write me a brief so that I can understand the domain better.
Then write a salesperson’s story pitch for new business in that domain, suitable for use by DashForge and DataForge to generate realistic data that tells the salesperson’s story and knocks the socks off the intended client.
And thus gets me hired.
Then I went back to sleep.
I woke up to a wonderful brief that helped me understand the domain and a scenario that I could very realistically face while helping them sell their services to a fictional but realistic company.
It’s about two ad campaigns and evaluating which one deserves further marketing spend. It has a wonderful twist: Campaign A looks like the winner, but with deeper analysis, Campaign B is the one to choose.
Now, I had already built DataForge—an accelerator that you give a business story you want to tell with data, the industry domain, and the metrics that will tell the story. DataForge then generates realistic test data that will plot and chart in ways that tell the story you want to tell.
I used this scenario to put the finishing touches on my work taking the open-source Rill BI platform and making it drivable by agents.
And—in a day—I had a beautiful dashboard with six tabs of data and visuals that walk a client through the scenario.
Then I practiced presenting it to this imaginary client, with ChatGPT helping me better understand the metrics and the story so that I could confidently and competently present it.
This is a couple of weeks of manual work.
And now that I’ve built it all, the next scenario can be accomplished in a couple of hours.
As for hiring me, I’ve shown:
- How I prepare to understand a client’s domain
- How I use storytelling
- How I’ve built several accelerators
- How those accelerators can be made accessible to the sales staff
- My Snowflake chops
There was a good deal more work on my part between the initial request to Dot and the finished product.
I’ve found that even though I benefit tremendously from AI labor, we are nowhere near removing the human. I’ve developed skills, and I use them. I’m required because AI doesn’t do all of this by itself.
That’s what I mean by living an AI-amplified life.
