Disclosure: I hate "Click-Bait" ... especially videos.
I saw "Edward Snowden" (interesting person) ... then refused to click on the link.

[Hey Grok] below is the result of "news search" that I got, with my "prompt" at bottom.

Edward Snowden has not put out ten distinct public observations in the past eight months. What is new is a September 2026 panel and a June 2026 Russian state-TV appearance. Clickbait clips titled “Snowden emergency warning” recycle older talks. Nothing in this window is a Russia-gate argument about an intelligence-community war on the executive branch. The list below is his actual recent statements, dated, with older ones marked so the window is clear.

Inside the past eight months

1. State work is being handed to private surveillance firms, and accountability disappears with it. On 24 September 2026 he spoke by video from Russia to a packed ETHics Forum at ETH Zurich on “AI Surveillance and Freedom of Speech.” He said more government functions are being outsourced to companies such as Palantir, so responsibility blurs. He did not discuss Russia’s political system. Source: the Zurich panel, reported by Blick.

2. AI companies cannot blame the model. At the same event he said firms shift blame for errors onto an “autonomous” system. Algorithms are neither guilty nor innocent. “The responsibility lies always with the people who develop and deploy these systems,” and he called for legal consequences for those people.

3. The new surveillance model is track everyone, then identify. In a June 2026 segment on Russian state channel Rossiya-1, used in an FSB report about Western infrastructure, he said the old model was “identify the target, then track them.” The new one is “track first, then identify,” so almost any information about any person can be pulled without a crime or a suspicion. He said even top-secret documents described collecting all possible information and wiretapping everyone.

4. Most internet traffic is still naked, and the phone makers were PRISM partners. In that same June 2026 appearance he said the largest telecom companies move messages unencrypted, so from the network’s point of view the communication is naked. He also said people still do not grasp that Microsoft, Apple, and Google were partners in PRISM.

Before that, mostly mid-2025, because eight months does not fill ten

5. Video interpretation has flipped. At SuperAI Singapore, 18 June 2025 (“Freedom in the Age of Intelligent Machines”), he said that in 2013 it took about an hour to analyze a minute of video. Current models can interpret about 30 hours of video in one hour of processing, on the chip, in store cameras, malls, and hospital waiting rooms, with no human in the loop.

6. A private whisper becomes a public utterance. At the same talk he said that once this is productized, “public utterance” expands to what you whisper to your wife in an empty elevator, because the security camera can see you and a voice model can flag phrases. Off-the-shelf cameras, he said, already do attribute detection and cross-camera tracking.

7. Device “emissions” identify you without reading content. Also at SuperAI: packet flows across routers, stockpiled for years, are “a big, beautiful turkey” for training. The order in which you open websites in the morning can uniquely identify you, along with habits and where you go.

8. Algorithms become the gate, and you cannot argue with them. He asked whether a model will decide a mortgage or a dating match, and whether harmless non-normative behavior will be penalized for deviating from the norm. His line for that was “How do you argue with a turnstile?” He said people need separate public and private personas - pseudonyms, separate browsers and accounts - not to hide, but to remain whole. The stated risk is a future with no “freedom from the system.”

9. Do not trust OpenAI. In May 2025, after a U.S. court order that OpenAI preserve ChatGPT output logs even when users delete them, he wrote that the company had “torn off the mask” and that people should never trust OpenAI or its products, calling it a calculated betrayal of rights. Secondary write-ups treat the chats as more invasive than PRISM because users volunteer thoughts rather than having metadata collected. An earlier warning, after a former NSA chief joined OpenAI’s board, was the same theme: do not trust them.

10. Arresting a platform founder is taking hostages. This one is older than eight months, from August 2024, but it is the last clear civil-liberties statement that still circulates. On Pavel Durov’s arrest in France he wrote that it was an attack on freedom of expression and assembly, and that he was surprised Macron had gone so far as to “take hostages.” He has also, separately, criticized Telegram’s own encryption, so the Durov defense is about the arrest, not an endorsement of the app.

The topics he is actually on are AI-scale surveillance, corporate capture of state functions, and encryption. Russia-gate and an intelligence-community war on the presidency do not appear in his public record from this period.

[My Prompt] Someone said that Edward Snowden is back in the news for his observations on current events. I expect that most likely topics would be National Security, or Russia-Gate as an Intelligence Community War on the Executive Branch of US Governance, or Artificial Intelligence relationship with Global Economics. From the past 8 months, what are the Top 10 Viewpoints or Observations from Edward Snowden (taken from video, articles, or posts on the Internet)? Go back farther in time if 8 months does not provide 10 stories on Ed Snowden views.

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

I am working on a lot of things to help me not need any kind of frontier AI subscriptions. To that point, for those of you with a home compute lab, do you regret it? Lots of money, did it feel like it was worth it?

What did you get? What models are you using? Do you feel you can dump the frontier?

Lunduke Lifetime Discount Ends in 1 Day; Zelda, Larry, SQ, & Keen Walls Available

TL;DR: Lifetime Subscription discount ends in one day. There are currently 4 “Lifetime Walls” with space available for more names (the Oregon Trail Wall is now full).

We’ve been running a massive discount on Lunduke Journal Lifetime Subscriptions for the entire months of June and July. And it has been an absolute blast. There are now 21 (twenty-one!) retro computer walls overflowing with your names.

Pure insanity. Huge thank you to everyone who has supported The Lunduke Journal.

But the discounted price only runs through July 31st… and that moment is just about here.

When the calendar ticks over into August (just a hair over 24 hours from now), the Lunduke Journal Lifetime Subscription price goes back to normal.

  • If the calendar still says it’s July, the Lifetime price is still discounted to $125.

  • If the calendar says August… the price returns to $300.

There are, as of this exact moment, 4 retro game themed “Lifetime Walls” which still have some space for more names (check Lunduke.com for the full list):

  1. Legend of Zelda

  2. Commander Keen 4

  3. Space Quest 4

  4. Leisure Suit Larry

Grab a discounted Lifetime Subscription (scroll down for the details), then email Lunduke (bryan at lunduke.com) with which Wall you’d like to appear on.

First come, first served. Once a Wall is full, it’s full. So if there’s a specific Wall you’d like to be on, don’t dilly dally.

How to Grab a Discounted Lifetime Subscription:

There are 3 different ways to pick up a Lunduke Journal Lifetime sub. All of them work great. Choose whichever works best for you!

Remember: These discounted prices go back up to normal ($300) on August 1st.

Get a Lifetime Subscription via Locals:

  1. Go to Lunduke.Locals.com/support.

  2. Select “Give Once“.

  3. Enter “125“ into the amount field.

  4. After checking out, Lunduke will toss you an email once your account is set to full lifetime status. (This usually happens within a few hours.)

Get a Lifetime Subscription via Substack:

  1. Go to Lunduke.Substack.com/subscribe.

  2. Select the “Lifetime Subscription” option.

  3. After checking out, Lunduke will toss you an email once your account is set to full lifetime status. (This usually happens within a few hours.)

If you would also like full, Lifetime access to Lunduke.Locals.com (which is included):

  1. Make a free account on Lunduke.Locals.com.

  2. Email “bryan at lunduke.com” with the email address you use on both Substack and Locals (can be different email addresses).

  3. Lunduke will toss you an email once your account is set to full lifetime status on Locals.

Get a Lifetime Subscription with Bitcoin:

Bonus: Save an extra $10 with the Bitcoin option, as Bitcoin processing has fewer fees associated with it.

  • Email “bryan at lunduke.com” with the following information: What time you made the transaction, how much was sent (in Bitcoin), and the email address you use (or plan to use) on Locals.com or Substack.com.

Oregon Trail, Keen, & Leisure Suit Larry Lifetime Walls

Holy frijoles! There are now 20 (twenty!) Lifetime Subscriber Walls, filled with the names of roughly one bazillion Lunduke Journal supporters.

Just amazing.

Two super quick updates:

  1. The “Desqview/X”, “NeXTSetp”, & “TRS-80 Model 100” Walls are now full! (Check them out on Lunduke.com and at the end of new shows.)

  2. There are 3 new Walls available to put your John Hancock on… and, just for kicks, these ones aren’t from Classic Operating Systems… they’re Classic Games:

    1. Oregon Trail

    2. Commander Keen 4

    3. Leisure Suit Larry

I don’t expect space on these Walls to last long. First come first served.

A huge thank you to all of The Lunduke Journal subscribers. Your support is deeply appreciated. You make this possible.

TRS-80 Model 100 joins The Lunduke Journal Lifetime Wall party!

Buckle up, Buttercup. Because The Lunduke Journal is about to blow your mind.

  1. The “BeOS” Wall Lifetime Subscriber Wall is now full (see all of them on Lunduke.com)!

  2. We’ve added a new “TRS-80 Model 100” Wall (because we can)! That’s the 19th Lifetime Subscriber Wall! 19!

  3. The discounted Lifetime Lunduke Journal Subscriptions are still available through to the end of this month (July).

Which means there are, as of this exact moment, 4 Walls with space available (see Lunduke.com for the full list of Walls). But these fill up wicked fast.

  1. Emacs (only a few spots left)

  2. Desqview/X (a little less than 2/3rd’s full)

  3. NeXTStep (still plenty of space)

  4. TRS-80 Model 100 (just launched)

Nice, right?

Worth noting: The “TRS-80 Model 100” has very limited screen resolution (240 x 64), which means only a small number of names can fit on that wall. If you want on it, I’d let me know right away.

Grab a discounted Lifetime Subscription (if you don’t already have one), then let me know (email “bryan at lunduke.com”) which Wall you’d like to see your name on.

Huge high five to everyone who has already added their name to a Wall. At the current rate, we’ll have over 20 retro computer themed walls, filled with all of your names, by the end of the month.

And, doggone it, that’s amazing.
