My three hour tour involved a two week voyage through computer heel once again!!
After Windoze kept resetting my video driver because it did not like my second display hookup, I kicked it off my laptop...
Now I have another computer that is an old HP 640Z and I wanted to be able to use that as a virtualization host....
Turns out that the video card in that system is an older Nvidiot kepler chip that the modern Nvidiot drivers don't understand....
I went thru every distro I had!! About 200 of them and the only ones that understood and automatically loaded the correct drivers were 2 distros!!
I had a choice between Ghost BSD and Manjaro!!!
In order to connect to the internet I tried a couple of advertized "driverless" USB dongles....no dice for Manjaro!! Still wouldn't connect or recognize the dongle...
OK,,,Ghost BSD had no problem with one of the dongles...cool!
Now I try to setup virtualization....VirtualBox is in the repositories as well as QUEMUOUS...I just wish they made the name without so many vowells!!
Well lo and behold the version of virtualbox is 6.1 and only does 32 bit!! Really??? Seaweed, Jeffrey???
ARGH!! The same with QUEMUOUS!!! 32 bit only!!!
Now I spend another week trying to download drivers to get Manjaro to load the USB dongles....no go... I think from now on I'm gonna call them Dangles!! As they just don't dang work!!
Option number three...get a wireless router and use it in range extender mode, hook up the Ethernet cable to the computer to the router and bingo! I'm now back on...still no luck with vuitualiztion for any of the two working display compatable distros...Ghost and Manjaro....
Back to square negative one....
Load up Garuda...get to load the right Nvidiot drivers after using compatability mode....now have a full display...get the latest version of Virtualbox installed...and now run Windoze in a VM where it cannot change my video display!! And poof! I'm back!! I think I'll sleep another two weeks to rest up for the next poseidon advanture!! There's got to be a morning after!!!

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.
It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.
After 20 years together (18 years married), I was finally able to get my lovely wife to watch Die Hard. She never had any interest because of how violent it was, but for whatever reason she was open to it this Christmas. I’m happy to report that she loved it! Yippee-ki-yay everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and have a happy New Year.
Hey guys! It's been great hanging out with you all here on Locals, but I am going to switch over to the Lifetime Subscription offer, but on Substack so i can consolidate the sources I follow. I wish the best for you all here. Have a great New Year!
The FOMO of not having a Lifetime Subscription to The Lunduke Journal
Time for some Fun Lunduke Journal Facts of Fact-ly-ness!
The “per-month” cost of a Lifetime Subscription to The Lunduke Journal is an asymptotic line. The longer you have that subscription, the closer it gets to $0.00.
The Lifetime Subscription was first introduced 3 1/2 years ago… and is still going strong.
The price of a Lifetime Subscription is currently discounted to $89. For life. That’s less than 1/3rd the normal price.
The earlier you pick one up, the quicker that asymptotic line begins approaching zero. Which is fun.
We Don’t Have Time Machines
If you think you might ever want a Lifetime Subscription, now is the time.
Imagine missing this discounted priceand missing out on months of, mathematically certain, asymptotic line fun. This is one of those scenarios where Future You (tm) would want to travel back in time to tell Present You (tm) to snag a Lifetime Subscription.
There are some options. For both subscribing and donating. They're all on this page.
Bonus: At the bottom of this page you will find the invite link to the super-secret Lunduke Journal Discord Chat Server. This is only available for full subscribers, which makes it a nice place to hang out. No riff-raff.
