Super sick. Huge week ahead. Oh, dear.

This illness that has hit the Lunduke home is a doozy. It's like a cold ratcheted up to 11. Seems to have hit just about every kid group in the area -- and folks are saying it tends to linger.

Yay!

We've got a big, big couple of weeks ahead of us, here at The Lunduke Journal. The debut of the "Untitled Nerdy Chat Show" and "Linux Sucks 2023". Plus some truly killer articles. I really don't want to miss any of that stuff because of this infernal virus.

So I'm making the executive decision to stop working entirely until Monday. Three days of sleep and recuperating -- with a ton of vitamins and soup.

I may hop onto Locals to post the odd funny picture or something, but I'm leaving the community mostly in your capable, nerdy hands for the next 3 days.

I have two favors to ask:

1) Post something Amiga-y to Locals. Or Linux-y. Or just funny. Keep the good times rolling (and keep me amused when I randomly hop on Locals, in-between Nyquil fueled naps).

2) Convince someone to pick up a subscription. Normally me posting articles and shows -- then sending them out into the world -- keeps the steady flow of subscriptions coming in. Being sick means the new subscriptions slow down. If you're on the fence, maybe snag one. Or nudge your nerdy buddy to jump in.

I'll keep that Lifetime Subscription for $119 deal going through the weekend since I'm sick anyway. These are the steps to snag that:

  • Go to https://lunduke.locals.com/support
  • Click "Give Once".
  • Enter $119 in the editable field, and checkout.
  • Boom. You’re done. Give it a few hours and your account will be set to full, lifetime access. (You can email “bryan at lunduke.com” with any questions.)

If you already have a subscription, just post a funny nerdy picture for me. 😅

Now, if you'll excuse me, there's a little shot glass of Nyquil with my name on it.

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

[Poll] What's Your Opinion on the Following "Ancient Event" Description?

RE: Sodom and Gomorrah and Science and Time Travel Hazards

[Grok 4 Response]
Theoretical Description of the Time Travel Blast Event
This scenario reimagines the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as a temporal anomaly: a mass-to-energy conversion triggered by time travelers departing, releasing energy equivalent to the Hiroshima bomb (~15 kilotons TNT, or 6.3 × 10^13 joules). The initial blast mimics a nuclear detonation but quickly evolves into a "time dissipation sphere" where 90% of the energy is siphoned back to the future over 100 seconds, distributed across 2000+ years. The sphere's 300-meter radius creates a localized "time sink," pulling energy forward temporally, leading to extreme cooling inside (near absolute zero, ~0 K) as thermal energy vanishes, condensing air into liquid ...

$89 Lifetime Subs Through Monday, Second Lifetime Wall

Holy tidal wave of subscriptions, Batman! I was not fully prepared for the flood of people taking advantage of the $89 Lifetime Sub deal!

But, hey! That’s a good thing! Welcome, new Lunduke Journal subscribers!

A few quick reminders and bits of info on this glorious Sunday:

  • The $89 Lifetime Subscription deal is good through Monday, Dec 1st. That’s tomorrow. All prices go back to normal on Tuesday.

  • For everyone who has already snagged the $89 Lifetime Sub this weekend, you will be receiving a confirmation email by sometime on Monday.

  • For every Lifetime Subscriber who wants to be added to the “Lifetime Wall” at the end of the shows (but isn’t already), toss me an email and let me know how you want your name to be displayed. I’m adding a second wall which will debut in tomorrow’s show (ran out of space on the first wall).

  • Same goes for Lifetime Subscribers who want the Lunduke Journal X account to follow your X account. Email me. Let me know what your X handle is. I’ll take it from there.

  • For the new subscribers: You can find links and details on the various perks (regardless of where you subscribe from) right here.

Monday should be fun. We’ve already got quite a few stories to cover for this week… and it’s not even Monday yet!

I took off a couple days, last week, to celebrate Thanksgiving. I figured, “There won’t be too many new stories breaking during Thanksgiving!” Boy, was I wrong!

See all of you on Monday!

Happy Thanksgiving, you amazing nerds!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I’ll be taking off the next few days to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. You may still find me posting a few tidbits over on X, in between food comas, but no new shows until Sunday.

To all of you amazing nerds who make The Lunduke Journal possible: Thank you.

To say I am grateful for your support, over the last several years, would be the understatement of the century.

Over the last few months, the audience size of The Lunduke Journal has absolutely exploded. Thanks, in large part, to all of you. You not only funded the coverage of these “Free from Big-Tech influence” stories… you helped spread them as well. Far and wide.

Because of you, stories are being told which would otherwise fly under the radar, hidden by the mainstream Tech Press.

You are, in a word, awesome. And I am thankful, every day, for the trust and support you have shown to The Lunduke Journal.

To all of my fellow Americans, Happy Thanksgiving. May your hearts and your stomaches be full.

To all of my non-American friends, I wish the same. Because there’s never a bad time to have a ridiculously big meal.
