New Lunduke Radio Show! Founding Member Hangout! Other stuff!
February 27, 2023

It is a wild time in the Lunduke Journal world! Got a whole lot to share today!

Not gonna lie. I’m excited!

The Lunduke Journal Radio Show is a go!

As of this morning, it’s official: there will soon be a nationally syndicated, weekly radio show hosted by yours truly!

To say I am jazzed right now would be a massive understatement.

There are still details to be worked out — and the radio network won’t even be making the announcement for the schedule change for a few weeks — but I can tell you this:

  1. The radio show will be two hours — including news, interviews, and call-in segments — and will air (live) every Sunday. On a boat-load of stations across the USA.

    1. There will also be many, many live streaming options for anyone who wants to tune in during the show but doesn’t have a station in range.

  2. An ad-free, podcast version will be released for all full subscribers to The Lunduke Journal of Technology — right on Lunduke.Substack.com and Lunduke.Locals.com.

    1. (We’ve also come up with a plan to make sure the radio show cannot be easily influenced by Big Tech.  I think you'll all approve.)

  3. The radio show topics will be exactly what you’d expect from The Lunduke Journal… with an extra dose of general computer news and questions.

  4. This will have zero impact on the rest of The Lunduke Journal of Technology (other than we get a new, 2 hour show every Sunday). The articles and podcasts will continue has normal!

A huge thank you to… all of you! Your support with The Lunduke Journal has helped bring us to this point. Just amazing.

As soon as the network is ready to make the announcement, I will share it with all of you — along with details on which stations will be carrying the show and when the first air date will be.

Next Founding Member Hangouts

The next video hangout for Founding Member and Lifetime subscribers will be held on:

  • Saturday, March 11th at 12pm Central Time

I will email out the link to the video chat the night before the hangout. So… you know… make sure you have your membership. ;)

This is a casual hangout and is not recorded. Just a chance for all of us to relax together and talk about nerdy things.

Let’s celebrate!

This is a pretty big time for me and for The Lunduke Journal.

  • A bunch of big live shows happening in March (including a new Linux Sucks).

  • A new, 2 hour, weekly radio show (with podcast version) in development.

  • Plus… I’m moving my family, permanently, to a new home (this week!).

We just had a subscription sale last week, but (what the heck!) let’s do it again! Why not! Both to celebrate (and facilitate) the awesome stuff happening… and to make sure all of you have a chance to enjoy everything coming!

At the very least, make sure you have the Founding Member Subscription. That’ll let you watch all the big shows (like Linux Sucks), hear all of the ad-free podcasts (and soon radio show), and get access to all of the subscriber-only articles and books and monthly PDFs. (Plus access to all of the sites in The Lunduke Journal family.)

Here’s the crazy deal (super duper discounted):

  • Anything over $50 will qualify for a Founding Member Subscription.

  • And anything over $125 will qualify for a Lifetime Subscription

This is insanely cheap. Obviously, if you feel you can afford a higher amount… that would be appreciated. But if those amounts are all you can afford? Go for it!

To get a Founding Member Subscription:

  1. Go to Lunduke.Locals.com/subscription.

  2. Choose the "Annual" option.

  3. Enter "$50" (or more) in the amount field.

To get a Lifetime Subscription:

  1. Go to Lunduke.Locals.com/support.

  2. Choose "Give Once".

  3. Enter "$125" (or more) in the amount field.

Note I am processing these manually, so give me a few hours to upgrade your accounts (on both Substack and Locals) after you make the purchase. I will contact each of you by email after I set your accounts properly. If you don’t hear from me within a day, send an email to [email protected] to make sure your accounts get full access.

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

It's bad enough that "they" want to put RUST in every FOSS Project.

However, forcing children to Learn RUST as their First Language is taking things too far.

I found a couple of old articles that I thought would interest the computer history nerds here.

First is an article from ComputerWorld 1985 about developers avoiding IBM’s AT (released August 1984).

https://gitpi.us/article-archive/software-developers-stear-clear-of-ibm-at/

Next, an article from the February 1994 NeXTWORLD talks about a partnership between NeXT and Sun to set the standard for object-oriented computing. This was three years before the end of NeXT.

https://gitpi.us/article-archive/grand-opening/

Finally, an article from May 1995 examines Microsoft, calling it the new IBM. The article also mentions that Microsoft tried to purchase Intuit in 1994, which is interesting because in the last couple of years, Intuit has been going on its own buying spree. Almost like Intuit wants to become a monopoly.

$89 Lifetime Offer Ends at Midnight!

I’ll make this quick: The $89 Lifetime Subscription offer for The Lunduke Journal ends at midnight tonight (Saturday, January 31st).

Once the calendar reads “February” — poof — the deal is gone.

If you wanted to save 70% on a Lifetime Subscription, these are your final hours.

A huge thank you to everyone who has signed up during this crazy deal. We are this close to filling up the 4th Lifetime Subscriber Wall (there’s a possibility it might fill up in the next few hours).

Far beyond anything I was expecting. All of you are absolutely amazing. The Lunduke Journal would not be possible without you.

If you were on contemplating grabbing that Lifetime Sub, I’d jump on it right now. The price goes back up to normal ($300) in about 12 hours or so.

Get it while it’s cheap!

The End of the $89 Lifetime Sub is Nigh!

Quick reminder: The massive deal The Lunduke Journal has been running — 70%+ off Lifetime Subscriptions, 50% off all other subscriptions — ends after tomorrow (Saturday, January 31st).

Considering that, here are the steps I recommend:

  1. Grab the $89 Lifetime Subscription before it ends tomorrow night.

  2. High five yourself for saving money and supporting Indie Tech Journalism.

  3. Maybe… grab a donut?

That is all.

$89 Lifetime Lunduke Subs ends this week!

Quick heads up, that the $89 Lifetime Subscription to The Lunduke Journal discount ends… at the end of this week!

Discounting Lifetime Subscriptions by over 70% was an absolute blast. So many of you took advantage of the offer that we’re now up to four Lifetime Subscriber walls at the end of every video. Crazy!

But something that awesome can’t last forever. Which means that, in just a few days, Lifetime Subscriptions will return to their regular price of $300.

With no plans to do another wild discount like that any time soon.

So.

  1. If you haven’t already, snag an $89 (via Bitcoin) or $99 (via Substack or Locals) Lifetime Subscription.

  2. Then let me know if you’d like to be added to the Lifetime Wall of Shame Awesomeness.

My guess is, a the current rate, that 4th Lifetime Wall will be full by Friday.

Bonkers.

And, once again, thank you to each and every subscriber. The Lunduke Journal would not be possible without you.
