I just wanted to share some restoration tips.
Many, nay, ALL of the machines I work on will have some rust. Most of the time its just really tiny surface rust on the case or shielding.
In the past, ive tried sanding this off and painting the part but this has 2 issues; 1st, sanding rust doesn't actually neutralize the rust so it will come back, and with a vengeance; 2nd, paint is very thick, and a whole lot of these old systems rely on the shielding as part of the ground plain.
What I do now is put some vinegar on any spots of rust. I do not soak the whole thing. I will use a toothbrush or q-tips and scrub the spots for about 10-15 minutes. This eliminates most the rust, and neutralizes anything remaining.
You then have to clean the area with alcohol, or the vinegar will destroy everything.
If you then leave that exposed to the air, it will rust again quickly, so, depending on if the part will be visible or not, I use a sharpie to color over the spot/spots. The ink will soak into the areas that were rusted but isn't so thick that it inhibits a good connection. If the part is visible, I might use paint, but only on the visible areas.
I just thought I would share this if anybody is working on anything.
Pokemon Go using your phone camera to build a CIA-backed 3D Map AI system.
It sounds like an insane movie plot. But it's real.
In 2016, this was "Lunduke's crazy conspiracy theory about Pokemon Go being used to spy on everyone, backed by the CIA". Now, in 2024, Niantic Labs (the makers of Pokemon Go), proudly brags about using Pokemon Go to spy on you... and using that covertly obtained information to build a massive, 3D artificial intelligence mapping system of private spaces.
"We receive about 1 million fresh scans each week, each containing hundreds of discrete images."
In other words: Lunduke was right.

And that's only one impact of Google being officially ruled a monopoly.

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.
It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.
Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

Has anyone else noticed how all the responses to comments on Jaguar's new ad reveal, are all obviously AI generated happy-talk nonsense?
There was some interesting news this week in the world of computing.
But the only one I can think about is NOTEPAD.EXE getting Artificial Intelligence.
I mean. What the fart?!
