A little behind the scenes info for all you amazing smelling nerds...
There's been a lot of sales here at The Lunduke Journal, right? Well, there's a good reason for that:
I'm trying to finish moving folks off of Substack.
Yes. Seriously. There are still an absolutely massive number of folks who are subscribed using Substack that haven't made the transition over to Locals. When we completed the primary migration to Locals, earlier this year, I was hoping that the bulk of the rest of the Subtack folks would slowly trickle over.
That just hasn't happened. At least not organically.
And, doggone it, just about the only thing that seems to convince the Substack people to make the leap is... you guessed it. Sales.
Subtle reminders. Big announcements. Threats of violence. Nothing else seems to work. But sales... those work! š¤£
(Technically I have the ability to export all of the users from Substack and automatically sign them up here on Locals... but I feel like that's just not a cool thing to do. When folks sign up for The Lunduke Journal, there's an expectation that I won't do anything weird with their user account data. So that's just not an option in my opinion.)
While we're using Substack to host the public podcast RSS feed, I'd really like to make sure that's all we're using Substack for going forward. So I'm determined to get all of the Substack readers over here to Locals. The quicker the better.
Now, as I run those sales -- intended to entice the Substack folks over here (which is working) -- I can either let all of you know (so all of you can take advantage of it too) or not tell all of you about the sales (so you all pay full price). I've been opting to let all of you know so that nobody missed out on a good deal.
But I've put a poll here. Which would you prefer? To hear about the sales (I've been trying to keep them amusing) or not? I'll go with whichever way the majority of you prefer on that. š
Once I hit a certain line -- of getting the Substack folks over to Locals -- I really will be shutting down the sales entirely (at least most of the time). How long that takes really depends on how quickly the remainder of Substack-ers make the leap.
