The Lunduke Locals Triple Pass + Massive progress on our subscription goal!

(Update: 11 subscription to go in the first goal! So close! So close! Just a few more will push us over! Awesome!)

Many quick things to share! These questions came up during today's Live Stream, so here's the details written up!

The Lunduke Locals Triple Pass

Want to get a subscription to all three Lunduke-run Locals sites at the same time? Only billed once a year? At a discount?

That's what we are now calling "The Lunduke Locals Triple Pass". And it costs $95 per year (the standard Annual option per site is $45).

1) Go to https://lunduke.locals.com/subscription
2) Choose "Annual"
3) Set the amount to $95 (the dollar field is editable)
4) Then email Lunduke (bryan at lunduke.com) to let him know you picked it up.

Shazam. You now have full access to all three sites:

  • Lunduke.Locals.com
  • NerdyEntertainment.Locals.com
  • ConservativeNerds.Locals.com

It's basically a "Pay for a discounted Yearly membership for two... get the third for 5 bucks... and only pay once per year." Essentially makes the cost per site / per month $2.63.

The September Subscription Goal

When I checked earlier this afternoon we were 14 subscriptions away from our first September goal!

That means: If we get just 14 more subscriptions... Linux Sucks 2023 will be released for free to the world!

Plus... we are well on our way to being able to afford to make our podcast completely free... on a free RSS feed! We can do this!

Some important notes about how we handle subscription accounting:

1) All subscribers -- across all three Lunduke managed Locals sites -- counts towards the total.

2) That "Lunduke Locals Triple Pass" way of subscribing? It counts as 3 subscriptions (one for each Locals site).

In other words: If 4 people pick up the "Triple Pass" that counts as 12 total subscriptions... and gets us most of the way to the first goal. šŸ˜Ž

If you already subscribe to Lunduke.Locals.com... and then you pick up one of the other two Locals sites... that adds one towards the goal as well.

Everyone adding to the subscription count right now gets a massive virtual high five. No matter what kind of subscription (Monthly, Yearly, Triple Pass, or any of the Locals sites). It all gets us towards the big goals.

Which I am growing increasingly confident we are going to hit.

AWESOME.

Lifetime Subscriber Notes

A few questions came up about Lifetime Subscriptions I wanted to make note of as well:

1) All existing Lifetime Subscriptions are fully honored (and always will be honored). You guys rule.

2) No new Lifetime Subscriptions will ever be made available. That program is closed. Permanently. With the door welded shut. 🤣

3) If you already have a Lifetime Subscription and do not have access to all of the three Locals sites (and want access) just email bryan at lunduke.com. I can set your access easy peasy.

4) Lifetime Subscriptions do not count towards my subscription number goals. Lifetime Subscribers are amazing, but the way the accounting is done those don't technically count towards the active subscription count.

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

BTW - I use Arch!

Never thought i'd say that. I'm more of a Linux Mint kind of person, but Omarchy looked so interesting.

My daughter's 2013 Macbook Air - that I spent good money for as her high school graduation present - is in perfect condition. It helps that she hasn't touched it in years. But seriously, this computer is mint. It's just 12 years old and Apple stopped supporting it with OS security update a year ago.

All my Macs will eventually be Linux machines. This is the first one. The installation went flawless.

I can't tell you much yet - as the VERY first thing I did was come here to inform you all -- that I use Arch ;)

Oh, and the caps lock button doesn't work. Weird. But the screen is beautiful - I don't know if it's Arch or Omarchy, but Chrome doesn't look "Linux Fugly" like normal.

Lunduke taking Veteran's Day off

Today, we honor our veterans and their service to our nation.

Great men, like my grandfather who, during World War II, joined the Navy at 14 years old. He was a big, older-looking teenager… so, as was not unheard of, he lied about his age on the paperwork in order to go fight the Axis.

And his father, who joined in the year leading up to the start of World War I.

I am taking this Veteran’s Day off. In part to spend time helping my children learn about their family’s US military history (which goes back, on multiple lines, to the very beginning of our nation). And in part… to watch one of the greatest movies ever made, The Great Escape. Because, hey, Steve McQueen and James Garner! Pretty sure my Grandpa would approve.

Lunduke Journal shows will resume tomorrow (and I’ve got an awesome one lined up).

In the meantime, if you haven’t watched yesterday’s DHH interview yet, highly recommended. Watch (or listen) to it anywhere you like.

And, in the grand tradition of ā€œVeterans Day Salesā€, I’ve extended the 50% off all Lunduke Journal subscriptions discount through this coming Friday. Because I can. Pretty sure my Grandpa would approve of that too.
