Lunduke blasted by a 9 foot tall Tesla Coil

Back in 2014, LinuxFest Northwest threw a big conference party at a place called "The Spark Museum" in Bellingham, Washington. Basically a museum of retro electronics (old radios, tv sets, and whatnot). Really cool place.

At the Spark Museum they had a 9 foot tall Tesla Coil -- which blasts out 4.6 million volts. This particular Tesla coil (one of the largest in the world) was originally owned by Cirque du Soleil... they were trying to incorporate it into a Vegas show. Legend has it someone got badly hurt (or worse) and that part of the show was scrapped.

So the Spark Museum picked that Tesla Coil up.

Then they built a big, man-sized Faraday cage that looks like something a super-villain would have, stored on his volcano island, in a steampunk novel -- complete with a battered, old-style dentist chair inside of it.

The conference organizers were given the chance to put three people inside the Faraday cage at once... and blast them with the Tesla coil.

Because I'm the luckiest darned nerd on Earth, I got to be in the cage (along with Seth Schoen from the EFF and one of the main conference organizers).

It was a truly awesome experience. The sound. The feel. Even though I knew we should be safe within the Faraday cage... not gonna lie... was a tad nervous. Didn't stop me from putting my hand up against the cage with the several million volt arc blasting at my face. 🤣

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

It’s My Code Not Vibe Code

I really don’t like “Vibe Coding” as applied to any use of AI tools to code. Vibe Coding is when you “get stuff developed without looking at the code”. It’s for weekend projects and has its place. But real code delivered to clients isn’t “vibe coding” - it’s code I need to understand, verify, vet and deliver with my and my company’s reputation on the line. It’s my code developed much faster and to high quality with the assistance of AI.

My current client has no restrictions on using AI and I’m having a ball with all my tools and the productivity they bring. One of them is the free Roo Code plugin for VS Code. I can give prompts that spur action across an entire codebase, not just a single file with a chatbot. It’s AMAZING.

The difference between vibe coding is that I’m paying attention to the code, the documentation, the testing. I’m not writing much of it, I’m the product owner, project manager and senior developer all rolled ...
