"macOS Sucks" approaches! Here's the schedule of events.
October 30, 2022

My next big show, “macOS Sucks”, is set to be one of the most fun shows I’ve ever done. Whether you love or hate Apple, you’re going to get a kick out of this. To say I’m excited would be a massive understatement.

To get everyone ready for the big day, below is the detailed schedule (all times Eastern).

Saturday, November 12th, 2022.

  • 11am — Pre-Show chatroom.

  • 12pm (High Noon) — “macOS Sucks” begins via live video stream. The show will last for approximately 1 hour.

  • 1pm — The “macOS Sucks” virtual after party.

  • 2pm — Exclusive video hangout for Founding Members and Lifetime Subscribers. Hang out with Lunduke as we unwind after the show.

The URLs for the video stream, text chat, and the Founding Member / Lifetime video hangout will be emailed out to everyone (and posted to Lunduke.Locals.com) a few hours before things kick off.

The recording of the event will be posted the day after: on Sunday, the 13th.

Remember: Only full subscribers to The Lunduke Journal can watch the show and join the fun!

You can always follow upcoming events on The Lunduke Journal Events Calendar.

Well, would you look at that!

Some super smart person had discounted subscriptions to The Lunduke Journal — conveniently timed before “macOS Sucks”! Wild!

  • Founding Member Subscriptions: $75 / Year (normally $125)

  • Lifetime Subscriptions: $200 (normally $350)

And both give you full access to both Lunduke.Substack.com and Lunduke.Locals.com. Which means you can take part in all of the events happening in the community… including “macOS Sucks”!

Also: If you currently have an existing subscription… that one year of a Founding Member Subscription? That gets added to the length of you current subscription. If you have 6 months left on your subscription via Substack or Locals? You will now have 1 year + 6 months.

Sweet, right?

You’ll want to pick up (or extend) your subscription here on Lunduke.Locals.com. That’s the best way for everyone (details below).

Subscribe via Lunduke.Locals.com

Here’s the breakdown of what each subscription level gets you:

To grab either the Founding Member or Lifetime Subscription, simply click this link:

Subscribe via Lunduke.Locals.com

Then select “Annual”. The $ amount field is editable. For a Lifetime Subscription enter “200” (and you’ll never be charged again), for Founding Member enter “75”. (And don’t forget to subtract what you’ve already spent on your existing subscription!)

Looks something like this:

Your subscription will be updated for both Substack and Locals. (These subscription levels give you full access to both sites.)

I highly recommend the Lifetime Subscription. Never need to pay another dime. All the benefits of a Founding Member level subscription. If you’re planning to be a nerd for more than another year or two… seems like a no-brainer. ;)

See you at “macOS Sucks”!

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

Lunduke's Birthday! Woo!

Wooo! Today is Lunduke’s birthday! Want to help celebrate this most excellent of holidays? Here’s some totally radical ideas!

1) Share some links to Lunduke Journal shows.

Bonus points if you share those shows to the type of places where people would get mad about it. 🤣

The “Open Source is Anti-Free Speech” video is a great choice. Just remember to take screenshots… because some sites will censor those links faster than you can blink (be sure to let me know if they do censor).

2) Grab a Subscription

Gotta keep the lights on here at The Lunduke Journal! And, shoot, there’s no better gift than the gift of Big-Tech-Free Journalism. 😎

Plus… for the rest of February there’s some massive discounts (like 50% off).

https://lunduke.locals.com/post/6661699/for-february-50-off-subscriptions-50-off-drm-free-downloads-lifetime-subscriptions-available

So, you know, win-win!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go eat some BBQ. Because… birthday.

The Great Tech Demographic Survey of 2025

There are a lot of questions we don't have good answers for.

  • Do Trump voters prefer EMacs or Vi?
  • Who is happier with their life... people who use Tabs or Spaces?
  • Does your age impact your choice of Web Browser?
  • Who is more likely to support censorship... Rust Programmers or C Programmers?

Do you know the answers to those questions?  No, I don't either.

Let's find out.

The Great Tech Industry Demographic Survey of 2025

This survey is massive -- containing questions on everything from Operating System preferences to religion and politicsProgramming languages and... workplace discrimination.  It even gets into Cryptocurrency and Text Editor preferences.

Seriously.

  • All answers are 100% anonymous (no account is needed), no email address is collected.
  • All questions are optional (only answer the ones you feel comfortable with).
  • The questions are all presented in random order.
  • All of the (anonymous) results will be published.

The 2024 edition of this survey (last year) was taken by over 7,200 people across the entire IT industry -- an absolutely massive sample size (larger than most US Presidential Election polls).  For this new 2025 survey... we're aiming even higher.

Are you a computer nerd?  Do you work in the IT industry?

Set aside a few minutes and take the 2025 survey.

Then tell everyone about it.  The more people who take the survey -- across as many companies and communities as possible -- the better the data will be.
