Seriously. Get those lower subscription costs locked in.

(I don't mean this reminder as any sort of promotion... I just really don't want you guys to get caught paying more just a few days from now.)

Right now, today, the cost of subscription on Locals is:
$5 / Month or $45 / Year (3 free months)

Very, very quickly it's going up to:
$8 / Month or $80 / Year (2 free months)

The Founding Member subscription, today, runs $100 / Year (or more, optionally)... which includes a complimentary subscription on either Substack or Locals (so you get both).

That's going up as well. To $160 / Year.

All those costs will be exactly the same on Locals, Substack, or Patreon. No differences between which platform you subscribe on. And once you are subscribing, that rate will stay unchanged until you decide to change it. So choose wisely. 🤣

Note: I really appreciate all of you. You amazing nerds really jump started The Lunduke Journal. And I want you all to be able to subscribe at the lower rate. You deserve it. šŸ˜Ž

Note 2: I will not be doing sales any time soon. And any future sales -- in the far far distant future -- will still cost more than the current regular price. Full disclosure. šŸ˜‰

My recommendation: Either subscribe via Locals at the yearly (biggest discount that will ever be available from this point onward, plus Locals access) or do the Founding Member thing on either Substack or Locals (so you still get Locals access).

If you have any questions -- or have troubles -- just let me know.

Oh, and I just updated the perks page. So much stuff. More on the way. Of everything. šŸ˜Ž

The futility of Ad-Blockers

Ads are filling the entirety of the Web -- websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. -- at an increasing rate. Prices for those ad placements are plummeting. Consumers are desperate to use ad-blockers to make the web palatable. Google (and others) are desperate to break and block ad-blockers. All of which results in... more ads and lower pay for creators.

It's a fascinatingly annoying cycle. And there's only one viable way out of it.

openSUSE says "No Lunduke allowed!"

Those in power with openSUSE make it clear they will not allow me anywhere near anything related to the openSUSE project. Ever. For any reason.

Well, that settles that, then! Guess I won't be contributing to openSUSE! 🤣

Lunduke taking Veteran's Day off

Today, we honor our veterans and their service to our nation.

Great men, like my grandfather who, during World War II, joined the Navy at 14 years old. He was a big, older-looking teenager… so, as was not unheard of, he lied about his age on the paperwork in order to go fight the Axis.

And his father, who joined in the year leading up to the start of World War I.

I am taking this Veteran’s Day off. In part to spend time helping my children learn about their family’s US military history (which goes back, on multiple lines, to the very beginning of our nation). And in part… to watch one of the greatest movies ever made, The Great Escape. Because, hey, Steve McQueen and James Garner! Pretty sure my Grandpa would approve.

Lunduke Journal shows will resume tomorrow (and I’ve got an awesome one lined up).

In the meantime, if you haven’t watched yesterday’s DHH interview yet, highly recommended. Watch (or listen) to it anywhere you like.

And, in the grand tradition of ā€œVeterans Day Salesā€, I’ve extended the 50% off all Lunduke Journal subscriptions discount through this coming Friday. Because I can. Pretty sure my Grandpa would approve of that too.
